Richard E. “Mike” Abbott, 88 entered his heavenly home on February 6, 2023.   He was born on August 13, 1934 in Norfolk, VA, the youngest of five siblings of Joseph and Bernice Abbott.   He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Sondra Failes Abbott; his daughter, Ginger Clark Abbott and son, Michael “Mike” Randolph Abbott, and his adored grandchildren, Margaret “Maggie” Lee Navarrete, Kathryn “Katie” Clark Navarrete and Michael Ryan Abbott.

Mike received his BA in Business Administration the College of William & Mary in Norfolk and served in the US Air Force, deployed to Korea 1953-57 as an airman, training in General Aeronautics and earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Upon return from service Mike began his career at C&P Telephone, and was promoted through the ranks of the company, taking early retirement as a district manager after 35 years with the company.

In the early 90’s Mike was active an active volunteer in the renovation of homes with the Homeless Haven Shelter, which earned him a proclamation from the Norfolk mayor in 1992.   He was an active member of the Falls Church Episcopal church, and served as Senior Warden for several years.

He was a loving husband and grandfather and always enjoyed being on the water, especially spending time on the beaches of Willoughby Spit; in his spare time, he enjoyed working on and restoring classic cars.
