Robert Van Valzah III

November 12, 1941 - January 12, 2022

The funeral service will be held at the Storke Funeral Home, King George, VA, at 2:00pm on January 29, 2022. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to service.  

Interment will follow at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, King George, VA. 

A celebration of Robert’s exceptional life will be held at a later time.

Robert Van Valzah III, 80, died peacefully at his home, the Cottage, in King George county, on January 12, 2022.

Robert was born in Fredericksburg, VA, on November 12, 1941, to parents Robert Van Valzah, Jr. and Laviolette Jones Van Valzah.  He is survived by wife Alice Peregoy Van Valzah, son Robert Van Valzah IV and Sarah Yeager Van Valzah (wife), and grandchildren Robert Alexander Van Valzah, Andrew Bradt Van Valzah, Lauren Allison Van Valzah and Katherine Morton Van Valzah.  He is also survived by his brother Stuart Van Valzah and Cathy Van Valzah (wife) and sisters Hale Pecor, Roan Grapes, and Jane Van Valzah.   He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.  Recognition should also be given to caregivers Nicole Bennett and Mabel Brown. 

Robert’s life truly epitomized a life that was full and well-lived.   He graduated from King George High School in 1961.  Subsequently he attended Virginia Tech, Civil & Highway Engineering of the International Correspondence School (ICS) and earned a certificate from UVA/Mary Washington College in surveying.  He contributed his talents to many career fields including engineering, retail and building.   Robert was the previous owner of Passapatanzy Grocery and Cottage Builders.  He was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the King George Builders Association.  He was also awarded the Pros Award for Excellence in the area of Construction Development, Purchasing and Customer Service in 2004, presented by Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association and Northern Virginia Building Industry Association.  He was a member of Hudson Morris Masonic Lodge and an active member of the Heritage Shrine Club.  He was also a member of the King George Historic Society. 

He and his wife enjoyed many adventures during their 60+ years of marriage.  They traveled to many continents and enjoyed time on the river and especially time with family and friends.
