Roland Joseph Kish
May 24, 1933 - July 24, 2022
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1st at 11:00am at Round Oak Baptist Church, Corbin. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, on Sunday, July 31st from 4pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Round Oak Baptist Church, P.O. Box 129, Corbin, VA 22446.
Roland Joseph Kish, 89, of Corbin, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
Born and raised near Woodford, at Kish’s Corner, Roland was the second child of the late Andrew and Stella Kish. He was a 1950 graduate of Caroline High School, and always enjoyed sharing about being a member of Caroline High’s first football team. Roland’s working years included Railway Express in Fredericksburg and 25 years with the US Postal Service, serving his Woodford community as their mail carrier, always on time and with a smile. Throughout his life, Roland’s favorite occupation would have been that of farmer, working for his family’s farm and also assisting others whenever needed.
Roland was a member of Round Oak Baptist Church, where he served faithfully and mentored many as an RA leader, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and deacon. Roland will be remembered for his love of God and His church, and he would often say there was no better place to be than in church. He loved and felt most at home in God’s creation, where he especially enjoyed time in the field tending to a crop, and time in the woods trapping or hunting. All will remember his green thumb and his beautiful vegetable gardens that were grown to enjoy and share with others. He enjoyed visiting with people and was a friend to anyone he met, and he will be remembered for his warmness and mischievous grin.
Survivors include his daughters, Donna D. Elliott (Warren) and Paula K. Dustin (Bob); his grandchildren, Anna and Ashton Dustin; a sister, Evelyn K. Hayden; and a niece and nephews who were very special to him. Roland was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alma D. Kish, and his brother Eugene Kish.
