A celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 8, 2022, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at King George Community Center, 8076 Kings Hwy, King George, VA 22485 (on Rt. 3 East, between the King George Fire Dept. and the Presidential Lakes main entrance).

Rubyedel B. Jones, 84, of Colonial Beach, VA, died peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in King George, VA, on the afternoon of 22 March 2022. She had congestive heart failure.

She was born Rubyedel Barrack on 29 July 1937 to Benjamin O. Barrack, Sr., and Alma Barnes Barrack of Colonial Beach. She attended Oak Grove High School, and went on to eventually earn her Master’s Degree from VCU in Richmond, VA.

Rubyedel was an educator through and through. She spent her first year teaching in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Her second year was spent teaching in Stafford County, VA. Then she spent the next 29 years teaching elementary and middle school at Colonial Beach Public Schools. She was quite “unique”, to say the least, in many of her approaches to education, and she was certainly a memorable teacher…a favorite to many students! After retiring from public schools, she taught another 10 years at Monroe Bay Christian Academy in Colonial Beach. She just couldn’t get enough.

She was the director of the young adult choir at Colonial Beach Baptist Church for many years. Later, she went on to be deeply involved in music and youth at both Monroe Bay Assembly of God and Maranatha Baptist Bible Church. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Bible Church in Oak Grove when she died.

Rubyedel was very active, and she loved sports. She played basketball in high school, loved to dance, water ski, ride motor bikes, swim, boat, and even coached softball for several years when she taught at Colonial Beach. Into her 70’s, she was known to go snow tubing with her grandchildren!

She loved the Lord with all her heart, and she wanted everyone to know Jesus and be saved above and beyond everything else. One of her favorite Scriptures was John 3:16.

Rubyedel is survived by her daughter, Jennifer-Leigh Zander, 57, and son-in-law, David Zander, Sr., 55, of King George; 6 grandchildren Kaylah Rodriguez, DJ Zander (Kourtney), Chelséah Rodriguez, Jessika Cronin (Aaron), Savannah Zander, and Sailor Zander; 2 great-granddaughters Myla and Zoleigh; brother Benjamin O. Barrack, Jr. (DeeAnn); ex-husband Morton A. Jones, Jr. (with whom she remained very good friends); brother-in-law William Miller; nieces and nephews Bonnie Smith (Oliver), Mark Butler (Cindy), Rodney Barrack (Rebecca), and Matthew Barrack; as well as many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mildred Anne Miller; her infant niece Brenda Barrack; niece Amy Butler, age 10; and her great-grandson, Benjamin Alec Zander, age 2 days.
