A visitation will be held 9:00 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A funeral service will follow 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2024 in Florence Memorial Gardens, Florence South Carolina. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church or James River Hospice of Richmond.

Samuel Eaddy Meggs, 86, of Spotsylvania died peacefully Friday, January 26, 2024 at his home in the arms of his wife and daughters. Born in South Carolina, he retired from Dupont as an electrical engineer, where he had a patent. He graduated from Francis Marion College, where he received a Physics award. He taught at Tri-County Tech and Florence-Darlington Technical College; was a consultant at Kent Textile Company and a U S Airforce veteran. He was a childhood member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina; a member of Carmel Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and he attended Crossroads Baptist Church. He was the youngest of eight children born to Samuel Edward Meggs and Janie Strickland Meggs.  Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Katharine Stanton Meggs; three daughters, Valarie Meggs Simpson (Craig), Martha Meggs Button (Keith), and Mandy Meggs Curry (Mike); nine grandchildren, David Simpson (Kailey), Christopher Simpson, Janie Simpson Church (Max), Samuel Keats Rowell, Vandiver Ian Rowell, Kyal Joseph Curry, Kameron Michael Curry (Caitlin), Khristian Jacob Curry and Emma Katharine Curry; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Meggs Campbell.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Anie Lois Hudson, William Meggs, Rhunette Liles, Juanita Coward, Jane Odom and Lynwood Meggs. He loved his family and farming but most importantly he loved the Lord and honored Him with his life. He was a kind and gracious person to everyone who had the pleasure to know him. During his illness, he enjoyed writing poems with messages of faith and family.
