Sonya Lassiter-Dunson was born September 2, 1966, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Billy and Louise Lassiter. She worked in the federal government for many years and retired spending time with her three children and five grandchildren. She continued her work to receive her degree in culinary arts for her passion. Sonya Lassiter-Dunson was a member of Petersburg Impact Church International.

Sonya touched so many lives in a way that others couldn’t. From small conversations to prayers at any moment, times of advice, and comfort through the storm. Sonya was known to many as the life of the party.

A vibrant mother, sister, friend, cousin, MC, cook, and so much more. She was very selfless, relentless, determined, and a fighter. She was like a light in the lives of all those she came in contact with. She was married to the late Zerick Dunson on March 5, 1998. They had three children, Damien Reynolds, Zyasia Dunson, and Zyona Dunson, all of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She is also survived by her parents, Billy and Louise Lassiter; her two sisters, Evangelist Rosa McReynolds and Chiquatia “Shay” Lassiter;  her six grandchildren Dai’aria Reynolds, Dai’Kazi Reynolds, Damina Reynolds, Kelaijah Delk, and Brielle Branch-Delk, and her beloved fur baby, Zee; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Sonya will always be remembered for her saying, “You can stop, but you can’t be stopped.” As something was happening, she would always say this, so in this time of bereavement, we must all remember we can stop, but we can’t be stopped. “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:6-8 KJV
