He was a very good football coach, but he really shone when the Walker brothers moved to James Blair. With them and a existent talented team, it became evident that James Blair could go all the way to the state championship with the right coaching--and GO we did! In 1965, we won the state basketball championship. The school went wild! Unless Coach Spaulding won some other championships after I graduated (66'), it was undoubtedly the pinnacle of his coaching career. As the multi-sport coach, the students idolized him. During the summer he taught driver's ed, which I had to take because I flunked parallel parking on my driver's test. I was terrified of him, but soon came to relax with his guidance as he patiently showed me how to do it correctly. We both celebrated when I finally passed my test. To this day, I love the challenge of parallel parking, as people watch as I (since I know his tricks) slip my huge van into a nice parallel space. I wasn't a footballer or basketballer, but your coaching led me to success. My late Dad, William Foley, the principal at James Blair, always spoke very highly of Coach Spaulding and respected him as a fellow colleague and someone who shaped young lives. Rest easy; well done, Coach. - Barbara Foley

My Condolences To The Family Coach Spaulding will definitely be missed by me. I will miss our Saturday morning chats on Main Street and at the Post office. He would light up when he spoke about the gathering with his football team and seeing all the players. He spoke often of my personalize license plate with a chuckle, he thought it was the funniest. I will cherish these memories always. Rest in peace Coach. Deepest Sympathy, Sandra Latney Brown

Thank you coach for choosing me to play on the James Blair High Basketball Team for three years. I have the wonderful memory of playing on an almost perfect team that had 22 wins and 1 loss and a state championship. They’re memories I still treasure.
