Maxwell “Spencer” Allen, 84, of Bowling Green passed Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Mary Washington Hospital with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Maxwell and Elizabeth Wright Allen and was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Allen. Spencer spent his life giving to others and serving his community.   He was a 1957 graduate of C. T. Smith High School, and married Barbara Kay on May 18, 1963. Spencer served in the U. S. Army from 1959 to 1962; he worked for Fort A. P. Hill for 32 years; he served on Bowling Green Town Council for 36 years; in 1980, he provided Communications for the Winter Olympics; he was a leader for Cub and BSA Troop #173 for 15 years and supported the Boy Scout Jamboree from 1981 -2010. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Kay Allen; two sons, Michael S. Allen (Jane) and Matthew S. Allen (Lorah); daughter, Michelle A. Fidler (Tom); five grandchildren, Taylor Allen, Cabel Allen, Kaya Whitlock, Lizzie Allen and Maxwell Allen; great grandchildren, Rowan and Briar;  two sisters, Barbara Ann Smith (Rod) and Mary Cooper (Earl); sisters-in-law, Jane B. Allen; Joyce Kay and Joan Kay; brothers-in-law, Jerry Kay and Burleigh Kay, Jr.; many nieces and nephews and his special friend, Charlie Claytor. A memorial service will be held 2 PM Thursday, at  Bowling Green Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
