Wayne A. Acors, 75 of Ladysmith, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022 in Richmond. Born in Caroline County, he was the widower of Julia M. Acors and had retired as the Director of Transportation for the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. Wayne began his career in public service by serving for ten years on the Caroline County Industrial Development Authority, including seven years as chairman. He was first elected as the Madison District representative to the Board of Supervisors in 1987. He was amongst the longest serving and most impactful members of the Board in the history of Caroline County. He was first elected chairman by his peers in 1990, a position he would hold six additional times before leaving the Board in 2015 after 28 years of service. Mr. Acors devoted countless hours of personal time and energy to serving his constituents and trying to make decisions that were in the best interests of the people of Caroline County. His knowledge, judgment and leadership skills helped shape the Board’s decision-making and the tremendous progress Caroline County achieved during his long tenure. His support for installing the County’s first public water and sewer system in Carmel Church and eventually Ladysmith, helped pave the way for tremendous economic development growth in Caroline County. During his tenure, tremendous physical improvements were made to the Caroline County Public Schools system including a new state of the art middle school and new Lewis and Clark Elementary School. The Caroline County Family YMCA in Ladysmith, enjoyed by so many County residents, would not exist today without his inspiration, leadership and determination to make it happen. Mr. Acors was proud of his accomplishments representing Caroline County on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo), a statewide organization that serves and protects the interests of the Commonwealth’s 95 counties. He rose through the ranks in a variety of leadership roles before becoming the first and only member of the Caroline County Board of Supervisors to serve as VACo President. After delivering his acceptance speech before hundreds of fellow elected officials from all corners of the state at the annual VACo conference in 2004, he spent the next year establishing priorities for the organization throughout the state and leading its efforts on behalf of Virginia’s counties. Survivors include his children, Justin Acors (Ocean) and Adrienne Acors; his grandchildren, Caitlin, Kian, Kynlee and Briya and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home on Friday, November 18^th from 6:00 – 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19^th at 11:00am at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Wright’s Burying Ground, Ruther Glen.
