Cyrus Hastings Hutchings

October 13, 1942 - November 21, 2022

The family will hold a private service.

Cyrus Hastings Hutchings, 80 of King George, formerly of Kilmarnock, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at his home, surrounded in love by his family.  A Virginia native, Cyrus was born to the late Johnie E. Hutchings and Kathrine Hastings Hutchings on October 13, 1942.  Cyrus was a member of the Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, the National Skeet Shooting Association and Kilmarnock Baptist Church.  He retired from a successful career with the Department of the Navy as an Electronic Technician, after 32 years.

In addition to his family, Cyrus had many passions throughout his life.  He was an avid duck hunter and loved being on the water with his Labrador.  He was a competitive skeet shooter for years and went on to mentor and coach his daughter in the sport.  After retiring, he took up photography and professionally photographed many weddings and worked with King George Parks and Rec taking sports photos.  Cyrus grew up on the water and continued boating, fishing, and camping with the love of his life.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years Clare A Hutchings; daughters Cassandra “Candi” Gayle (Eric) of King George, Kimberly “Kim” Martin (Kevin) of Sandston, and Brandy Burd (Craig) of Virginia Beach; grandchildren Kyle Martin, Kolton Martin, Kirsten Staples, Brice Staples, Olivia Burd, Samantha Burd, and Cannon Burd; brother George Edward Hutchings of Kilmarnock; nieces Martha Jane Sutherland of Kilmarnock, and Melanie Jones of West Point; and sister-in-law Lorrie Carlton of West Point.

In addition to his parents, Cyrus was preceded in death by his sister Roxanna Moone and her husband Levi, and nephew Warren Sutherland.

The family will hold a private service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Kilmarnock Baptist Church (www.KilmarnockBaptist.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
