Ernest Raymond Dakin, Jr.

October 11, 1932 - August 1, 2022

A Funeral Service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, August 9 at the Mount Calvary Community Church, 6731 Beulah St, Franconia, VA 22310. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior.

Interment will follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery, 6600 S Kings Hwy., Alexandria, VA 22306.

Ernest Raymond Dakin Jr., 89, of Colonial Beach, VA went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 1, 2022.

 

Born on October 11, 1932 in Washington D.C. to the late Ernest Raymond Dakin, Sr., and Pearl Ramey Dakin.

 

Ernest was a retired DC Firefighter who served 20 years with Engine Co. 2. He also remodeled houses on Capitol Hill for many years while raising his family. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and enjoyed collecting clocks and many other “treasures”. In his earlier years, he enjoyed coaching his son’s Little League teams. He loved cats and dogs, especially his dog, Lucy. In his later years a treasured pastime was shopping at his favorite stores, Goodwill, and Ollies. Most of all though, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and cooking for them.

 

He is survived by his Wife of 72 years, Nancy Lynn Dakin. Children, Patty Kolb (Thomas), Bonnie Cragle (Dennis), Tina Hickman (Mike), Linda Church (Mark), Ernest Raymond Dakin, III, and Robert Dakin (Susan). Sister, Florence “Beanie” Christensen (Kenneth). 13 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and expecting the birth of his newest Great-Great Grandchild.

 

Ernest is preceded in death by his Sister, Linda Joyce Cordell, and his Great-Grandmother Mae Ward.
