Howard Lee “Skip” Harris III, age 70, of Colonial Beach, Va, died December 19, 2018.

Howard (Skip) was born into an Air Force family and was able to live and work in a variety of locations, including New York, Florida, Tokyo, Hawaii, Albuquerque, Seattle, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Tysons Corner, Baltimore, and Colonial Beach.  He worked as a systems specialist in large business and government mainframe computers, such as the IBM-360, for Compuware and other companies.  He enjoyed sporty cars, boats, and reading scientific articles.  He loved being around dogs of any type.

Skip made friends wherever he was, always willing to help a neighbor with a broken computer, tool or other projects.  He had many challenges in life, but his strong spirit made him adaptable to whatever came along.  He spent the last few years of life at The Orchard in Warsaw, VA, with complications from traumatic brain injuries.   He is greatly missed.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents Lt. Colonel Howard Lee Harris, Jr., and Ann F. Hart Harris.  He is survived by a sister, Kathy Waltermire (J. B.) of Colonial Beach and a brother, James G. Harris, of Hillsboro,  MO; a nephew Robert Pruitt (Ruth) of Englewood, OH; and a niece Laura Butler (Craig) and grandnephew Michael Butler of Lorton, VA.

A memorial service will be planned at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Colonial Beach, after the holidays.  In lieu of flowers, contributions would be welcome at the Brain Injury Association of Virginia, 1506 Willow Lawn Dr., #212, Richmond, VA 23230, or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church,  203 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, VA  22443
