James Sherman Lee III, 57, of Colonial Beach passed away peacefully on May 24, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones after battling a short but very aggressive illness. Born on June 11, 1965, he was the son of James and Thelma (Dodd) Lee.

He will be remembered fondly as a loving son, brother, husband, father, and “Grampy”. Jimmy was blessed as a father to four “My Girls”, he had “sunshine on a cloudy day and all the riches one man can claim” every day.

The notorious “Jimmy Lee” was never known to lose a battle of any kind and his reputation will live on. His battle with this illness was marked as a tie! Although you can say it was a victory because he is with his loved ones that went on before him and celebrations began as soon as he arrived.

Jimmy was no stranger to hard work. Throughout his career, he held various job titles and owned several very successful businesses. Job titles included auto body technician, mechanic, and repossession agent. Rest assured that his dedication to work did not waiver and he showed up to work the next day despite his passing. The lessons and skills he learned throughout his life were taught to his brothers, former employees, friends and customers throughout his illustrious career.

Jimmy never met a rule he couldn’t break, a boundary he couldn’t push, a line he couldn’t cross, and a story he couldn’t stretch. You could rest assured that if he said he was just around the corner, you need to just be patient, he would eventually get there.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents James Sherman Lee, Jr. and Thelma Jean Lee.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Cindy Lee. He is survived by four daughters: Robin Lee, Jami Provencher (Kolton), Amy Lee Burkhead (Joel), and Amanda Lee. Additionally, survived by three grandchildren: Karsyn, Karter, and is expecting a second granddaughter very soon. As the oldest, Jimmy is survived by his siblings: Mikel Lee, Kevin Lee, and Taylor Lee.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. To quote Marty Robbins, “Some Memories Just Won’t Die.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to River of Life Pentecostal Church; towards funding a scholarship in Jimmy’s name for the Auto Body Program at Northern Neck Technical Center or the American Cancer Society.
