A Funeral Mass in his memory will be held 2:00 pm Monday, February 12, 2024 at St. Mary’s of the Annunciation, 10306 Ladysmith Road, Ruther Glen, VA 22546. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Annunciation.

Julian Albért Thomas died peacefully Thursday, January 25, 2024 at his home. He was born October 16, 1926 in Monroe, West Virginia to Homer and Martine Albért Thomas. He graduated from James Monroe High School, and attended the College of William & Mary. After one year at college, Julian was in the Army for two years during World War II. He was posted at Camp Gordon and then Fort Bragg, where he served as Military Police. The war ended prior to his pending deployment to the Pacific. Julian then returned to William and Mary and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. Julian taught for 3 years at Bowling Green High School, where he also coached football, basketball, baseball, and track. While at BGHS, Julian met and married Joyce Gladding. He left teaching for a career at Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, where he was employed for 45 years. Julian and Joyce adopted and raised six children in the town of Bowling Green, Virginia. Julian was a member of St. Mary’s of the Annunciation, where he was often an orator. Julian enjoyed reading, football, and vacations at the beach.

Julian was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Gladding Thomas and his son, Robert Thomas and a nephew, Keith Thompson. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Townsend (Paul) and Amy Thomas; his sons, Michael Thomas (Tara), Cyr Thomas (Lori), and Jesse Thomas (Samantha); his grandchildren; Lara, Kelly, Trip, Chandler, Kaylin, and EJ; and his great grandchildren, Aleya, Lily, and Finn; a sister, Anita “Button” Thompson (James “Topper”);two nephews, Jim Thompson and Chris Thompson a niece, Karin Desmone (Phil Desmone); great niece,  Alexis Thompson; two great nephews, Nicholas and Christian Thompson; and two great-great nephews, Noah and Nicholas Thompson.
