Michael Gregg Broaddus, 60, of Sparta, passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2023.

A native of Caroline County, Mike was a man of Sparta and deeply loved the land and community there. He valued his neighbors and would have given the shirt off of his back to anyone in his community. Mike had a heart for farming and was passionate about 4-H, actively encouraging and mentoring the next generation. He loved fixing anything with his hands, especially old farm equipment. A Virginia Tech graduate, Mike was employed with the Virginia Cooperative Extension serving as an Extension Agent. Mike  was a volunteer with Sparta Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Maxie Gregg Broaddus III & Patricia Ann Holmes, and a brother, Maxie Lee Broaddus.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Mary Grace Broaddus and Emilee Catherine Broaddus; significant other, Penny Johnson; brother, Leo Joseph Mitchell (Deanna); aunts, Mary Scott Haley and Jackie Dean (Arthur); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 10 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 11 at Salem Baptist Church, Sparta. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
