October 13, 1935 - October 28, 2020

A service will take place when COVID restrictions are lifted.

Rebecca Hart Balderson Zehmer, 85, joined her Heavenly Father peacefully at home in Mechanicsville, Virginia on October 28, 2020.

Affectionately known as Becca by her children and grandchildren, she was born in Richmond, Virginia on October 13, 1935 and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. Becca was predeceased by her parents, William Wirt and Doris Dillard Balderson, a sister, Charlotte Balderson Doris, and her beloved husband Adrian Ford Zehmer.

Becca lived her 85 years with such strength and positivity. She was our family’s cornerstone, our role model and our best friend. She lived her life fully. She had traveled the world in the last 30 years, some trips we were fortunate to be on with her. Her recall of events, places and stories was unbelievable. Puzzles, reading and playing Words with Friends kept her mind busy. She never lost that sharpness and we are eternally grateful for that. She loved her family and her partner, Yorke. Becca will always be remembered as the “glue of her family,” for her youthful and vivacious spirit, and for always exhibiting kindness to others. She loved to travel with friends and family, always looking forward to the next exciting adventure. She was loved by all and will be truly missed.

Her sense of humor and wit was unparalleled. We shared many laughs and we will cherish those memories forever. We miss her so much.

We will see her in every flower, butterfly, cardinal and hummingbird. She recently stated, “Don’t worry about me. When I go, don’t be sad. I have traveled where I wanted to go, seen everything I wanted to see and I found love for a second time.” We wish we could. Our heart is breaking and we are so sad we won’t be able to hear her voice again. Heaven now has an awesome angel and we’re sure she’s keeping our Dad in line. Until we see you again, Becca, love you more!

She is survived by Leslie Zehmer Campbell (Clarence) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; William (Bill) Hardy Zehmer (Alacia) of Lake Oconee, Georgia; Susan Zehmer Fitzpatrick (Frank) of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; and Rebecca Zehmer Brown (Stanley) of Orlando, Florida and her beloved partner Yorke Nelson of Mechanicsville, Virginia. Becca is survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was also a beloved aunt to Brad Doris (Greg Lily) of Abingdon, Virginia.
