Richard Pereira Soares, Jr

January 31, 1963 - September 6, 2022

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Storke Funeral Home, King George Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Richard Pereira Soares, Jr., 59, of Colonial Beach, VA passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at his residence. Richard was born January 31, 1963 in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from General William Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, CO and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He moved to Colonial Beach, VA 15 years ago when he began working for NSWC Dahlgren, concluding 23 years of government service working for the Topside Integration Division, as a lead electrical engineer. He worked in the private sector as a systems engineer for over 6 years and earned a Juris Doctor from St Mary’s University, and a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science, Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona.    

Richard was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephew, and in his spare time, he enjoyed running, weightlifting, biking, boating, target shooting, playing chess, and listening to classical and opera music.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Pereira Soares, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Annemarie Karla Otto Karst of Colorado Springs, CO, his brother Robert C. Soares and his wife Heidi of Virginia Beach, VA, 3 nieces, Rebecca Bender and Savanna Soares of Oceanside, CA, Gabriella Kardux of Tacoma, WA, nephew Brady Soares of Arlington, VA and a great-niece, Aurora Bender of Oceanside, CA.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Storke Funeral Home, King George Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Catholic Outreach, St. Jude Children‘s Research Hospital, or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
