Willard Boyd McDougal

December 11, 1943 - July 6, 2023

U.S. Veteran

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the Funeral service immediately following at noon, on Monday, July 10, at Storke Funeral Home, 111 S. Main St., Bowling Green, VA 22427.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bowling Green.

Willard “Bill” Boyd McDougal of King George, VA completed his earthly race and entered into eternal rest on July 6, 2023.  He was born in Caribou, ME, on December 11, 1943, to Emma and Glenwood McDougall.  He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 on August 29, 1961, serving on a number of ships including the USS Lookout, the USS Sea Owl, the USS Pargo, the USS Will Rogers, and the USS Marian, G. Vallejo.  Most of his naval career was spent on submarines, where he served as the Weapons Officer.   Bill retired from the Navy on October 31, 1981, as a Lieutenant Commander.  During his service he received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and numerous awards including the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service.  He later received an M.S. degree in Administration.

Following his naval career, Bill was a government contractor for Naval Surface Weapons Center in Dahlgren, VA.  He was successful in establishing field offices for two major government- contracting companies.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Douglas, Gordon and Bernard McDougall), and a sister (Elizabeth Johnson).  He is survived by his wife, Louise McDougal; his six children:  Willard McDougal, Brian McDougal (Kristi), Andrew McDougal (Jane), Patrick McDougal (Jennifer), Ellen Schaad (Tim), and Mary McDougal (Chris); two step-daughters Amy Hanley (Rick) and Julie Holton (Eugene)  two brothers, Morris (Bettina) and Stephen (Tina) McDougal; and two sisters, Elva Hills (Hollis) and Debbie Voter (Dexter).  Bill was also the proud “Papa” of 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons.  He was loved by his family and friends, and will be greatly missed!

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mila, Kevin, Shelley, and Emily of At Home Care Hospice.
