Margaret Virginia Johnston entered into the arms of Jesus on June 24, 2022, where she was restored to full health for eternity.  Her faith and hope are today fulfilled, as she settles into the house prepared for her; as promised.  Peggy, as she was called, had served as an administrative assistant in Colonial Beach Schools and in the NSWC Dahlgren Personnel Department.  In her retirement years, she was an interpreter and guide at Stratford Hall. Peggy was known to brighten every place she went with her positive demeanor, uplifting spirit, and beautiful smile.   Peggy was a long-term member and contributor to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach, VA.  She was a stellar vocalist who loved to sing praises to her Savior and loved to support the efforts of the Episcopal Church Women organization. Peggy lived a full life of 90 years, expressing her Christian world view to everyone she met.

Peggy was born in Arlington, VA to Elizabeth and Frank Stump.  She grew up in Arlington where she met and married the love of her life, Richard Windsor Johnston.  With their four daughters, the Johnston family moved to the Colonial Beach in 1970 to live out their years.  Peggy is survived by her precious daughters; Sandy Fudge (Charlie) and Shirley Walker (Blight); Sons-in-laws Kenny Cooke and Larry Bowie.  She was predeceased by her husband Richard Johnston, her parents, her precious daughters Victoria Cooke and Judith Bowie and her sister Shirley.  She and her famous sausage dressing will be missed by her 12 grandchildren.  Her 24 great grandchildren will all hold “Nana” in their hearts and preserve her galvanized legacy.  Special thanks from the family are extended to the staff at Heritage Hall in King George.
