The family will receive friends from 12pm-2pm on Friday, June 30 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Historyland Memorial Park. All are welcome to join the family for a reception afterwards.

Carroll E. Loving, 85, passed away on June 24, 2023. He was a lifelong resident of King George, leaving a lasting impact on his community. Mr. Loving’s legacy stretches far and wide, from his career accomplishments to his devotion to family and community.

Mr. Loving attended King George High School where he excelled as a basketball star and co-captain of the team. It was during this time that he met his sweetheart, Ruth Ann Rolland, and on December 6, 1958, they were married at Montague Baptist Church.

Beyond his athletic pursuits, Mr. Loving found solace in the great outdoors. An avid hunter, he cherished his time in the woods. Additionally, he possessed a green thumb and took pride in cultivating vibrant vegetable gardens.

For over 30 years, Mr. Loving dedicated his professional career to the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Dahlgren, serving as an Explosives Test Mechanic. His work involved testing guns during the Vietnam War, contributing to the defense efforts of his country. In addition to his role at Dahlgren, he also owned and operated Carroll E. Loving Roofing, establishing a reputation for quality workmanship. On weekends, he gladly lent his support to “The Auction Man”.

A devout member of Montague Baptist Church, Mr. Loving faithfully served as a deacon and played multiple roles within the church community. He served as a van driver, managed the church softball team, and contributed his time until recently, when he began receiving pastoral care from Rev. Sherman Davis at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mr. Loving will be remembered as a dedicated mentor and provider, always placing his family at the forefront of his life.

Mr. Loving is preceded in death by his parents, Claude & Bessie Loving; brother, Percy Loving; and sister, Audrey Cox.

Mr. Loving is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Rolland Loving; children, Carol Jeanette Durrette (J.B.), Brian Keith Loving (Jeanne), Karen Christine Loving, and Gregory Kent Loving (Charlotte); grandchildren, James, Amanda, Christopher, and Rachel; step-grandchildren, Jake and Wayne; great-grandchildren, Collin, Ryliegh, Beorn, Abraham, Mackenzie, and Freya; brothers, Fred Loving and Joey Loving (Deborah); sister, Frances Meade (Walter); sisters-in-law, Barbara Loving and Joyce Skidmore; brothers-in-law, Tommy Cox, Richard Rolland, and Morris Rolland.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all caretakers who provided compassionate care and support for Mr. Loving.
